How it works
How to make a passport photo
Take a good photo
Face the camera straight on, against a plain light wall, with even lighting and a neutral expression. Ask someone else to take the photo, at eye level, not too close.
Place the frame
Move and enlarge the frame until the top of your head is in the upper lime band and your chin is in the lower one. Your face sits in the middle, in the oval.
Download and print
Download the passport photo on its own or a 10 × 15 cm print sheet with eight passport photos. Have it printed on photo paper, without cropping or fit to size.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
What are the requirements for a Belgian passport photo?
35 mm wide and 45 mm high, in colour, recent, sharp, looking straight at the camera with a neutral expression and mouth closed, against a plain light background. Your head, from chin to crown, measures about 31 to 36 mm. The face is fully visible; glasses are allowed if the eyes are clearly visible, without reflections.
Will the municipality accept a photo I make myself?
The municipality decides when you apply. A photo that meets the rules is usually accepted, but there is no guarantee. If in doubt, ask your municipality beforehand or go to a photographer.
How do I print the print sheet?
Have it printed as a regular 10 × 15 cm photo at a photo shop or an online photo service, and turn off ‘auto crop’ or ‘fit to size’. Each passport photo will then be exactly 35 × 45 mm. Cut along the thin grey lines.
