How it works

How to make a photo lighter

  1. Choose your photos

Drag them into the box, pick them on your device or paste one with Ctrl+V. Up to fifty at a time.

  2. Choose quality or a target size

Set the quality as you like, or pick a target size such as 500 kB. A smaller longest side makes the biggest difference.

  3. Download

You see before and after for each photo and the total saved. Download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Will I see a difference from the original?

At a quality of 75 to 85 % you usually see no difference on a screen, while the file often gets three to ten times lighter. Go lower and you start to see soft edges and little blocks.

Why did a photo not get smaller?

Some photos are already heavily compressed. If the result is bigger than the original, we simply keep the original and tell you so. Try WebP or a smaller longest side instead.

Which format is the lightest?

At the same quality, AVIF and WebP are usually much lighter than JPG. JPG is still the safest if someone has to open the photo in an old program. PNG is lossless and therefore rarely light.
