Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use Snipsel: with a mouse, a keyboard or a screen reader, on a large or small screen. Here is what we do to make that happen.

Our benchmark

We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, the standard behind the European Accessibility Act (EN 301 549). We test with the keyboard, at 360 pixels wide and at 200 % zoom.

What we do

Every page has a clear structure with headings, a link to skip straight to the content, a visible focus for keyboard users, labelled fields, enough colour contrast in both the light and the dark view, and respect for your device’s ‘reduce motion’ setting. The crop frame for cropping and passport photos also moves with the arrow keys, and anything that is ready is read out.

Reading comfort

With the button showing a little figure at the top of every page, you choose larger text, more space between lines and letters, a readable font, more contrast, underlined links, less motion or a reading guide. Your choice is saved on your device.

What is not perfect yet

A screen reader cannot describe a photo itself. That is why the dimensions, file size and what has changed are always shown as text with the result. Drawing areas to blur works best with a mouse or finger; with the keyboard you add an area and move it with the arrow keys. Instead of dragging a photo in, you can also use the ‘Choose a photo’ button.
